Walter Chikwendu Ihejirika is a Professor of Development Communication and Media Studies in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He holds a PhD in Sociology of Communication from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a Master’s in Pedagogy & Communication from the Salesian University, both in Rome. He was Acting Head of the Department of Communication Studies, University of Port Harcourt (2011-2013). He was also the Director of Programmes of the Campus Radio (UNIQUE Radio Station, 88.5 FM as well as a member of the Radio Board, 2013-15). As a Senior Academic Staff of the University, he is actively engaged in teaching, research supervision and academic mentoring. He has carried out social research which have been published in reputable journals both locally and internationally. His major research interest is in the area of media, religion and culture; communication and social development; communication for environmental protection; communication for conflict management and peace building, ICT in religious praxis and ICT in youth culture. Apart from his mother tongue, Igbo, he speaks English and Italian fluently and has good knowledge of French.
