Asfawossen

Prof Asrat is a geological engineering expert with extensive experience in higher education, research, and international scientific leadership. He is a Professor of Geological Engineering at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and was formerly a Professor of Geology at Addis Ababa University (AAU).
His research spans paleoclimatology, paleoenvironment, petrology, geochemistry, geological engineering, and geoheritage, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has held senior leadership roles, including as a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, Vice President of the Geological Society of Africa, and a member of the Past Global Changes Scientific Steering Committee.
Recognised for his contributions to the field, Prof Asrat is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences and the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences and a young affiliate of TWAS (World Academy of Sciences). He is also Co-Editor-in-Chief of Earth-Science Reviews and an Editor of Scientific African.
