Abegaz

Prof Berhanu is an ET-based senior advisor specialising in natural sciences, higher education, and research. He is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg and previously served as the Executive Director of the African Academy of Sciences (2011–2017).
Prof Berhanu holds a BSc in Chemistry from Haile Selassie University (ET) and a PhD from the University of Vermont (US). He completed postdoctoral research at the University of Ibadan (NG), Florida State University (US), King’s College London (GB), Ruhr University Bochum (DE), and Humboldt University (DE). Throughout his academic career, he has lectured at universities in Addis Ababa, Boston, and Botswana.
Prof Berhanu has contributed to numerous international committees and boards, including IOCD, ICSU, the IFS Board of Trustees, and UNESCO, advancing global scientific collaboration and policy development.
