Niklas Hayek is an Austrian environmental engineer and international development expert based in Germany. With extensive experience across Africa and Latin America, he specialises in renewable energy, climate change, education, and entrepreneurship.
He has advised international organisations on energy, environment, water, and innovation policies, as well as coached young entrepreneurs in the energy sector. As the gender focal point for an EU-funded energy policy programme, he contributed to inclusive energy sector reforms. He also coordinated an EU-funded initiative on innovation, skills development, and entrepreneurship in the energy field, leading to the establishment of two master’s programmes, an energy research centre, and an incubation unit at African universities.
Niklas has led multiple international projects, including the Ukraine Green Skills initiative and the Ethiopia project. He has developed training programmes, managed research platforms involving 1,000+ experts, and serves as a visiting lecturer on international technical cooperation.
