Prof Nicholas Awortwi is a governance and social policy expert with extensive experience in higher education and research. He is currently the Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies and has previously held leadership roles, including Director of the African Governance Institute (Netherlands) and Director of Research at the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) in Kenya. From 2004 to 2012, he was a Senior Lecturer in Development Management at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University in the Netherlands.
A leading scholar on decentralisation, local governance, and social protection in Africa, Prof Awortwi has provided expert advice to international organisations working across the continent. His latest books, Governance Below the State and Politics, Public Policy & Social Protection in Africa, are published by Routledge (London & New York).
